The course consists of a workbook, answer keys to the exercises, helpful resources such as sample checklists, and handouts on grammar that are particularly useful to proofreaders.
You are welcome to email the instructor with queries at any time within 6 months of enrolling. In addition, you can take advantage of a 20-minute phone consultation with the instructor during that period.
You are also encouraged to practice your proofreading skills by completing a final exercise. The instructor will assess your strengths and note what areas you may need to work on.
The workbook covers these topics:
- Why proofreading is important
- What you do as a proofreader
- How you go about doing it and what you look for as you proofread
- How you can mark up a hard copy or a digital PDF file
- What skills you need to be a competent proofreader
- How you query a copyeditor and author
